We're PROUD to offer a lineup of fabulous events for our local takatāpui and rainbow community. Our festival welcomes all our gorgeous allies to take part, and our families and whānau too!
Dunedin Pride Month is about coming together and connecting as a community as we celebrate the beautiful things that are queerness and queer people, in our city. It's your chance to get out and explore all that rainbow Dunedin has to offer.

From March 12th-26th, number 26 Princes St is becoming the Dunedin Pride x Fringe Hub. Drop in for a hot drink and a chat, hang out and make some art, or check out a scheduled Dunedin Pride Month event!

I Spy Rainbows | Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Gardens
Activity | In partnership with Lan Yuan
For the whole month of Pride, Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Garden will be celebrating with a rainbow flag ISPY in the garden.
Hunt amongst the hazel and forage through the foliage for all five diversity Rainbow Flags. A fun family activity for all ages, bring friends and whānau to experience the beauty that is Lan Yuan in early autumn. Normal entry fees apply.
Thursday 2nd
Dunedin Pride Month Youth Opening Party | Dunedin City Library | 4-6pm
Mixer | In partnership with Dunedin Public Libraries & UniQ
Inviting all our local takatāpui, LGBTQIA+ and rainbow high school students to a special launch of Dunedin Pride Month 2023! Get immersed in Pride and meet peers across our city as we kick off the festival. You'll also get to meet the Dunedin Pride team, as well as the students running queer groups at the university and polytech.

Dunedin Pride Month Opening Party | Lan Yuan | 5-8pm
Party | Free entry | In partnership with Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Gardens
Start off Dunedin Pride Month with a gathering at Dunedin's stunning Lan Yuan Chinese Gardens. Tea service provided.

Saturday 4th
Pride Walk 2023 | Ross Creek Reserve | 10am
Activity
Get your hat, sunnies, sunblock and water bottle ready to join us for a hikoi at Dunedin's Ross Creek Reserve.
We are meeting by the paddling pool in Woodhaugh Gardens - the same place where we had our PRIDE NIGHT January picnic. See you there at 10am, and we'll head off together at 10:15am. Open to all Ōtepoti rainbow community members and allies.
Pride Patches and Pins Workshop | Toitū Otago Settlers Museum | 2pm
Activity | Free | Book online at Toitū
Celebrating our Takatāpui and rainbow community’s history and continuing the art form of intracommunity signalling. From green carnations and coded language to carabiners and handkerchiefs, queer people have created subtle ways to signal each other and create community.
We’re here, we’re queer and we’re making patches and pins!
Celebrate your LGBTQIA+ identity by heading into Toitū to create your own piece of history and you’re your own custom pride accessories.

Rocky Horror Movie Night | Tūhura Otago Museum | 8pm
Film | In partnership with Tūhura Otago Museum
We're going all out! Rocky Horror as it should be - get your tickets for this interactive musical extravaganza.

Saturday 11th
Rainbow Climbing | Resistance Climbing | 4-7pm
Activity | In partnership with Resistance Climbing
Get your boulder on at Resistance Climbing. Expect bangin’ pride anthems, rainbow décor, delicious snacks and a whole lot of fun. An instructor will be there for the first hour to cheer you on and provide guidance. Resistance has routes to suit all skill levels, so whether you’re a first timer or a seasoned climber we’ve got you covered. If you don’t want to climb but wanna join in for the social aspect, you are more than welcome. There’s comfy beanbags for you to relax in and provide moral support. Can’t wait to see you there!
Discounted rate of $10 per climber for this event. No charge for Resistance Climbing members

Rainbow Kids & Families Movie: Frozen | Tūhura Otago Museum | 4pm

A movie for kids and families to enjoy as part of Dunedin's local Pride community. Come join us as we watch Frozen.

Hub Opening Party 🥳 | Dunedin Pride x Fringe Hub | 4-6pm

It's another big opening! Come join us as we party-open the Dunedin Pride x Fringe Hub, located in the Dunedin Community Gallery at 26 Princes Street.
It's a cute wee shindig where we'll share kai and kōrero, and you can contribute to our collaborative community art installation, led by artist Philip Jarvis.
All ages and free to attend. Snacks and refreshments provided
Tuesday 14th
Dungeons & Drag Queens | Dunedin Pride x Fringe Hub | 6pm - 10pm

D&D like you've never played before! Join Dunedin Pride and ORBS for a fabulously queer and totally epic adventure. Hosted at the community hub at Dunedin Community Gallery on Princes St.

Rainbow Crafternoon | Ground Floor, Dunedin City Library | 4-7pm
Activity | By Dunedin City Libraries
Join us for an afternoon full of beads, stickers, badges, and Lego! A chance to make and create in a fun-filled environment. Make friendship bracelets, Pride flag badges, DIY stickers and all sorts of other colourful creations!

Makeup Club | Dunedin Pride x Fringe Hub | 11am-1pm
Activity | A Dunedin Fringe Festival event
Come help co-design Ōtepoti's first takatāpui and rainbow makeup group.
We invite you to join us at the Dunedin Pride x Fringe Hub, where we'll let our imaginations run wild! This is an exciting exercise in collaborative design, where we'll get hands on with some makeup as we plan the club's first season.
Get excited for full drag transformation play with local makeup professionals (and amateurs!).
This space is open to people in the takatāpui and rainbow community, and all our gorgeous allies. Free to attend. Come take part!

Meet the team behind the Rainbow PTSD Group, hear how it runs and what you can expect as a prospective participant or supporter. Learn about our hopes and aspirations for this programme and hear how it's changed the lives of some previous participants.

Queer Poetry Night | Dunedin Pride x Fringe Hub | 8pm
Poetry | Presented as part of the Dunedin Fringe Festival
Dunedin Pride's Queer Poetry Night is a space for our local takatāpui and rainbow community to share and celebrate queer voices in poetry.
This is a relaxed and easy, open mic format event. We invite you to come share a poem, could be a piece you have written yourself, or a favourite from another poet. Listen to queer perspectives in poetry and support our awesome local poets.
Friday 24th

After Dark Pride Party | Tūhura Otago Museum | 7-10pm

Tūhura Otago Museum, in collaboration with OUSA, are flying the Rainbow Flag for another legendary After Dark. Grab your allies, and come celebrate Pride at Tūhura Otago Museum with dancing, performances, challenges and more!

Come and meet likeminded queer literacy and culture buffs to peruse the library's amazing collection of queer books, music, film, and media. Have some creative fun with our rainbow LEGO, make yourself a Pride badge with the badge maker, and cover yourself in rainbows with the face painting station!
PLUS the first 50 people in the door get a DPL Rainbow goodie bag!

Explore fabulous artworks created by Dunedin's queer community during the Fringe Festival! Come to the show on the 26th to explore, connect and celebrate our local takatāpui and rainbow creations! Open to all ages and family friendly. Free to attend.

Event | In partnership with Student Christian Movement and St Paul's Cathedral
All are welcome to a comfortable, non-denominational service to celebrate diversity and inclusiveness. It doesn't matter whether you're currently involved in a faith community or not. Come along and relax, reflect, and enjoy kai and drinks afterwards. Led in partnership with Student Christian Movement and St Paul's Cathedral.
