Self-guided, family-friendly activity through the garden. Look for pride flags as you explore!

 

Hocken Pride Craft Lunches

Wednesdays @ 12pm - 1pm throughout March - Hocken Collections rainbow chill-out space

Whether it’s knitting, crocheting, stitching, colouring in, sketching or something else - bring your lunch and a project and have a relaxed hour with some other rainbow folks doing crafts together.

A comfy space to chill, drink a cup of tea, read or craft. The Dunedin Pride Quilt created at Toitū last year will be on display. Bring your own zine to swap at the zine swap table. Check out the Hocken Seed Library, visit the art exhibition or ask us questions about doing research in the Hocken Reading Room.

Come along and help us kick off Dunedin Pride Month 2025! All you need is a picnic blanket, some snacks, and some friends!

Ceilidh and Celtic Barn Dance

Sunday 2nd @ 3pm - Botanical Gardens Sound Shell

Join Dunedin Pride and Frivolry at the Botanical Gardens to dance the night away!

"But what is a ceilidh?" you ask!

A ceilidh (pronounced "kay-LEE") is a social gathering where guests are invited to partake in called barn dances accompanied by live, high-energy, celtic folk music. We teach you how and where to move your feet, hands, legs, arms, with all levels of experience welcome. So no excuses.

What to bring: your dancing shoes! A water bottle! A friend or family member who has never been to a ceilidh before!

Celebrate Pride Month at Ōtākou Press Studio: Handprint a poster! Join Gini & Alexander for an introduction to our old-school letterpress studio, and print your very own poster on one of our super vintage presses.

Do you love making zines? Or never made one but want to have a go? Come along to the Hocken Pride Zine Workshop! Learn about how zines fit into our collection at Hocken Collections and their role in the communication of ideas and information for marginalised communities historically.

Our fourth annual Dungeons & Drag Queens, a queer D&D + boardgame night, is a great opportunity to learn a new game or play an old one with your mates, or make some new friends!

If RPG’s aren’t your thing, bring along a board game.

All ages and experience levels welcome.

If you’re interested in running a game, please get in touch with us. We can provide books, support and supplies. No experience required, let this be your opportunity to learn!

Join Dunedin Pride for a night of glitter and glam with the best drag that Ōtepoti has to offer!

Dunedin Pride is back with SoliloQueens (+ Kings), a drag show featuring the best that Ōtepoti has to offer!

With a sold-out show and Dunedin Fringe Festival Award nomination in 2024 (Dance/Cabaret/Physical Theatre Award), you don't want to miss out on the fabulousness this year! Six performers are ready and waiting to take to the stage and dance the night away.

So don your highest heels and sparkliest clothes, because SoliloQueens is BACK BABY!

Crafternoon Drop-in

Saturday 15th & Tuesday 18th @ 2 - 4pm - Fringe X Pride Hub

Pop in for 5 minutes or 2 hours, it’s up to you! Paint up a storm or finally finish that crochet project, and do it with a nice cuppa and good kōrero.

"How do we shape Ōtepoti Dunedin into a city for all?"
That's the question posed at this year's queer leaders panel, and we have some fantastic panellists to help answer that question and many more - including from you!
Locals and visitors from across the motu, our five panellists have experience and expertise in urban design and planning, disability rights and accessibility advocacy, politics, academia, live performance and music. Some locals and some visitors from across the motu, all our panellists represent the rainbow community in the work they do.

Rainbow Rangatahi Crafternoon

Thursday 20th @ 4pm-6pm - 2nd Floor City Library

Join us for an afternoon of crafting! Make your own pride badge, origami paper hearts, paint with every colour of the rainbow, and let your creativity take over.

With plenty of craft supplies and options, find what you can make with a little bit of imagination.

Five Films For Freedom

Thursday 20th @ 6:30pm - Dunedin Public Art Gallery

Join us for a special screening of Five Films for Freedom, the world’s widest-reaching LGBTQIA+ online celebration.

A partnership between the British Council and BFI Flare, London’s LGBTIQIA+ film festival, Five Films For Freedom makes five LGBTIQ+ short films available to watch online for free anywhere in the world.

Since its launch, the films featured in the programme have been watched online by over 26 million people in more than 200 countries and principalities, celebrating global stories in support of LGBTQIA+ communities around the world.

Dunedin Public Art Gallery is delighted to host this free public screening in collaboration with Dunedin Pride and the British Council New Zealand and the Pacific. The films selected for this year’s programme will be announced in mid-February.

Screen Printing Workshop

Bring along some old t-shirts, bags, or anything you can find to upcycle with a new design!

We will have a limited amount of tote bags available for purchase ( $5 ) but you are heavily encouraged to bring your own items!

Rainbow Stories For Rainbow Families

Saturday 22nd @ 2pm - Dunedin City Library

Rainbow whānau are invited to join us for a special story time reading session in celebration of Dunedin Pride Month!

We have a selection of children's stories being read by staff, a dance party to show off your best moves, face painting, colouring in, and snacks to keep you going. Dress up is encouraged, so come as your most sparkly, colourful selves!

This will be a fun event for tamariki and rangatahi and their whānau.

Join us for our fourth annual queer-friendly church service: a non-denominational celebration and affirmation of the queer community featuring readings, music and activities.
